This blog's been mocking me a bit lately. Just sitting there on the Internet, waiting around, saying 'what have
you done lately, hmmmm?' Stupid blog. So, the reason I've not blogged much lately is that I've honestly not been doing a great deal. Have had a few big nights here & there, but nothing that wouldn't have occurred if I wasn't in Australia as well. Or just about anywhere else in the world for that matter. A few hangovers aside, I've been a good boy for the most part & a bit of a yawn.
I blame the move. Having a place all of my own now has allowed me to use up a lot of time & energy looking for the right tupperware & deciding whether I want green or red tea towels. You know, important house stuff. I went for red by the way.
But I've noticed one funny thing. I've started harking back a bit. Lots of what today's trendy punters would call 'retro' is invading my life & I kind of only just realised today. Perhaps it's spending so much time looking at awesome old pictures of Hong Kong back in the day while looking for decorations for the lounge room, my current fetish for noisy old music like Gun Club & the Cramps, the trendiness of images of Mao Zedong that are
everywhere, the fact that I'm currently running the Back to the Future Trilogy, or maybe it's just that I'm now back in a climate that was a lot like my high school years? Whatever it is, it's all just seemed a bit old school lately. Like sitting there this morning drinking Movenpick coffee - which was the first plunger coffee I ever actually liked - & watching Astroboy was a hella blast from the past. I forgot how hard they tug the heartstrings in that show. A flying nuclear reactor with machine guns that just wants a mum & dad, but somehow it's still really touching even through all the awful voice acting. The Japanese are weird. Next thing I'm going to be playing Atari & buying VHS tapes of Voltron or something while wearing fluro shorts. Better get out of the house next weekend...
Anyway, the reason for this ridiculous topic is something I haven't seen for a while & forgot how much I enjoyed: Tropical thunderstorms. It's a real pity I don't have a balcony in this place as I really like listening to it & feeling the wind, etc. On second thought, maybe it's a good thing as I'm sure the rain here could melt a 50c piece inside an hour with all the gorgeous heavy metals & petrochemicals & shite it's undoubtably loaded with. But, regardless of my ability to get all Percy Jackson, I still enjoyed the little squall that shot across the city this afternoon. Check these photos of it sweeping across & whiting out the view. Apologies for the grubby window, but not keen on getting out on the 12th floor to clean it, so I'll wait for the professionals to come by.

That pointy tower is right in front of IFC, which is a monster landmark when it's not being munched by clouds. You can see it on the right side of the wallpaper on this blog. Got it? Awesome.
Now watch as I make it disappear |

Going... |

My hood.
I love this weather. |

At 93% ambient goo factor, the dehumidifier had a HELL of a job today as genius Luke decided it was a great day to leave all the windows open. Where's that clapping coming from? |
So, in conclusion, I need firstly to buy an umbrella as it was really coming down. Like, we're talking rain drops the size of door knobs. Lot's of them. And I'm fairly confident it's going to happen again. Secondly, I need to find myself a bunch of bars &/or restaurants that have nice, big open verandahs. Buggered if I'm going to be living on a tropical island & not enjoy nature's awesome fury when its got its dander up. I have a feeling that I'm going to need a slightly better (& slightly more waterproof) camera than my crummy old phone... cut to next blog entry where I'm dressed as a Dozer from Fraggle Rock, tied to a lamp post in a typhoon with two Olypus Toughs strapped to my helmet. WhooooooooOOOO! TROPICS BABY YEEEAAAH! BRING IT ON!
Or not.
